I'm really glad that i redid this assignment. The numbers assignment was assigned to us before i discovered manual focus so i was able to get much closer to things this time and that helped alot. Also i started to notice the numbers and where they were and what they looked like before i actually started to shoot the assignment and i didn't have to hunt them down as much. This time i learned that the contrast is really crucial to make the shots look interesting because if they were gray, the numbers themselves wouldn't be very interesting. I tried to get good light on these images but it didn't really work because i went out in the morning and i shot things i had seen the night before but i was about ten minutes too early and so they were a little gray. I had to edit them alot and i didn't like that and also they were a little blurry but i think that the content of the numbers was wayyyy better than the first time i shot this assignment. I am glad i got the opportunity to redo an assignment!!!

PORTRAITS

wow this assignment was really hard for me to do because i couldn't pose people the right way without them looking boring or wayy too cliche. It was difficult. I will probably re shoot this. I did like taking pictures of people when they weren't expecting them though because that is when their personality most shows through in the photograph.I don't like the overall outcome of this assingment. I don't think i captured who the people acutally were that well and i think i could've done that alot better. I also think i need better backgrounds because for this assingment i was looking more for solid colors as backgrounds except for when i was trying to take pictures when the people weren't paying attention. Also i need to have some more difference of closeness because they all are about the same depth of feild. I would also like to take more pictures that are tack sharp and you can see every detail of the face. This assingment was verrrry hard for me and over christmas break i am going to re shoot it and try to do it better.

MINI FINAL

These photographs are definitely my favorite images mainly, i think, because of the focus. I reallly liked these images' focus and also the light. Which are sooo important because those two things combined can make just about anything look interesting. I really liked the pictures of 97 and of the door knob because i feel like the contrast in 97 and also the fact that that was just a bus stop. People see those everyday and they notice the numbers but i liked how they looked and how the numbers were in focus but the background was blurry. The doorknob i liked because of the light! It was so cool how there was just one strip of brighter light going through the darker door and i reallly liked that.

This was a random assignment that i shot in my backyard and i really liked how the light was hitting the leaves and also how the ground was completely covered and the trees were almost completely bare. I definitely like the last three the best because they actually have more of a subject than the first two.

Joe Rosenthal

Je Rosenthal was born on October 9, 1911 and he started photography as a hobby during the great depression. He later got a job photographing for the Sanfrancisco News in 1932. After that he wanted to be a US army photographer but was rejected because he had bad eyesight. He joined the Associated Press (AP) and followed the U.S. marine corps as an "embedded journalist". Rosenthal was famous for this picture:






It is the flag raising at Iwo Jima. The marines were putting up a bigger flag while taking down a smaller one. Rosenthal wanted to get a picture of the simultaneous exchange of the flags but saw that that would be difficult because as he turned to the person who was filming the exchange to tell him he wasn't in his way, they started to make the exchange. He spun around and snapped the photograph. He was a crown graphic camera so he would have one shot to make the photograph and he would have to change the sheet which could take 3 or 4 seconds which he didn't have. Rosenthal won a Pulitzer prize for this picture and he said he has spent every day of his life trying to tell people that this photograph was NOT staged. Rosenthal died at age 94 on August 20th 2006 of nautral causes

Assignment #5 - On Your Belly!

For this assignment we had to take pictures of things on our bellies! the upward angle is called the "hero angle" and i was in a darkish lighted mood so all of my pictures are a little dark.. This assignment was fun and i like the different angle. it makes things that aren't very interesting look interesting.

For this image i bumped the exposure down just a little bit and then tried to change the blacks but the actual water of the pond ended up getting too dark and i tried to fix that by bumping up the exposure more but that did not work out well. So i changed the blacks back and tried not to have too much gray.

For this image i had to bump the exposure up quite a bit almost .7 which is more than i wanted to but it worked out pretty well. The trees on the right side of the image were getting way too dark when i changed the black at all so i ended up hardly even touching the black slider. It took a long time to develop this image because if i changed it hardly at all it would look fake or too dark or too light. It was cloudy/dusk when i took this and so it feels dark but it is still a little too gray.

WAYY hard to do anything to. It was such a cool shot to start with because the sky was actually gray and the sunlight was streaming through the clouds and it was hard when i took this because the scene lost a lottt of the detail directly under the sky and the light wasn't as cool in the camera.
